Quinn Says It Again - The Slug Dies in 2010!

Perusing Icethetics.com yesterday, I found something VERY exciting - a reader named Kevin sent word that Larry Quinn was on Leafs Lunch yesterday, confirming that the Slug will die in 2010!

I'm listening to the archived episode now, and there's no way to skip forward, so I don't know exactly what he says. Here's the link, though, for the more patient of us heh

If I make it through to when Quinn speaks, I'll edit this to add what he says.

The worst kept secret in the NHL. But now we have confirmation. It's about time. Farewell sluggaroo. We hardly knew ye. Not that we even wanted to.

It's funny - the last worst-kept secret in the NHL was the birth of the slug. Now it is it's death.

Phil, it's pretty safe to say that the Sabres aren't the tightest run ship in the NHL.

Oh by all means, I agree.

They were talking about the implications of a person being able to move a team at will (in reference to Balsillie, of course.) After discussing the impact on TV contracts, Larry mentioned merchandising. He said something along the lines of "when you're dealing with something as simple as a logo change - we're dealing with this, now, as we are in the process of switching back to our retro uniform - it takes 19 months."

Not much in the way of new details, but since they have the current thirds for a potential home jersey and he says "we're in the process of switching," one could conclude that they are going to be bringing out the whites (I doubt there is a 19 month timetable to swap homes and thirds.) No indication if that will be this year on next, though. However, 19 months ago, they were working on the current thirds. If that was the first step in a decision that was already made, then we might see the whites this year. It's more likely, though, that we won't see them until next season for the 40th.

Even though I'm a Leafs fan, I'm estatic to see the slug die! It was the worst logo ever in NHL history. Unless it's a Southern team created by Bettman no NHL team should ever be subjected to such a disgusting logo. And I thought the Nords had an ugly logo. Can't wait for next season.
