Third Straight Thirds

For the third consecutive home game, the Sabres will be donning their third jerseys. They are 2-0 on that stretch and a miraculous 7-1 for the season in the thirds. Hopefully, they will extend that to 8-1 tonight as they finish a home-and-home against the Senators. They will do so without Vanek, Goose or Sekera, but with the addition of firecracker forward Nathan Gerbe, who was called up from Portland (actually, he just stayed at HSBC after last night's Pirates game there.)

Firecracker doesn't do him justice. He had a goal and 20+ penalty minutes. Little monster kicked a dude in the shin and suckered another guy. He has balls bigger than him!

I went to the Pirates game. Conboy should definitely received a game misconduct for what he did and Gerbe should not have. The refs lost control of that game for while.

Gerbe is a great talent with, as you say, big brass ones. He will go far as long as his brains hold up. With his size, he will always be as at danger of getting more concussions (he just came back from a minor one.)

Gerbe got one for starting three fights in the span of like, what, 10 seconds? The last one he instigated was a brawl - him vs the River Rats bench. That's why he got it, I think. I was there, too. It was awesome - did you join in my sections's "Mike Ryan YOU SUCK!" chants?

No, but when he came out for his shootout attempt, I yelled "hey Mike, how was Russia?!" Then, when he missed, I yelled "go back to the KHL!" Gave people around me a good chuckle.

Conboy received a four game suspension for his attack on Gerbe. Nathan, on the other hand, got an NHL paycheck. Sounds fair to me.
